Lincoln Electric and David C. Lincoln, son of its founder, support aspiring engineers at Ohio State

With a $1 million donation, Cleveland-based Lincoln Electric and David Lincoln have co-funded the first endowed professorship in welding engineering at The Ohio State University. Lincoln Electric also donated or consigned nearly $420,000 worth of welding equipment and technology for use by Ohio State students and faculty. Learn more.

CEMAS Launches Microscopy
Collaboratory with AFRL

Solving complex problems increasingly requires access to sophisticated technology and equipment. The Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS) is removing one big access barrier with the launch of its first remote electron microscopy collaboratory. Now Air Force Research Laboratory researchers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base can utilize world-class microscopes without traveling to Columbus. Next, CEMAS plans to offer remote access statewide. Learn more.

Producing UV Light Via Thin Film Technology

Some may say bigger is better, but MSE’s Dr. Roberto Myers would disagree. Since joining Ohio State in 2008, his research has focused on the construction of various thin film materials—composed of layers that are each hundreds of times thinner than a single human hair—in order to discover novel material properties and applications. Using thin film material technology and solid state lighting techniques, Dr. Myers’ group created a novel method of producing ultraviolet (UV) light. Learn more.

Celebrating the Class of 2015

One of the most diverse and successful MSE classes thus far; the Class of 2015 was the first to graduate completely under the semester system and the first to tackle the department’s new modeling and simulation module. Before setting off to engineer a better world, five of our newest alumni recently shared their experiences and future plans. Learn more.
